The "Abused Goddess" is one of the most powerful campaigns I've ever seen currently going on in India to bring awareness and action against the rampant domestic violence and danger that women face in India on a daily basis. India has a rich, religious history of revering Goddesses and the campaign reproduces some of the most iconic images of Indian Goddesses -- but with faces that show abuse. The campaign seeks to startle the population with "Today, more than 68% of women in India are victims of domestic violence. Tomorrow, it seems like no woman shall be spared. Not even the ones we pray to.” I pray for the success of this campaign -- and also recommend supporting the "Save our Sisters" nonprofit behind this effort. The statistics on violence and trafficking of women and girls in India is staggering and much work and effort is needed to change the cultre of violence towards women there.
