Oaxacan artist, Fernando Olivera, is perhaps better known in this country for his magnificent work in color -- vibrant paintings that depict a magic realist Mexico -- but I also love his smaller black and white etchings which are equally magical. I am determined this year to purchase one or two for the new house (whenever we find it...you know...it has to be the house, the one we know will be home). So far these two beauties from Indigo Arts Gallery (a dangerous place when I have a little money in my pocket) are on my wish list. The one above is "Por Unos Ojos Negros" (with its evocative images -- feet, a heart, and a curled dog with black eyes) and the one below is "Angelita."
